John Kerry's leadership PAC, then called Keeping America's Promise, was the largest contributor to Democratic campaigns in the 2006 cycle, raising over $14 million for the successful drive to retake Congress for the Democrats. And included in that remarkable total was a huge effort to help elect some great Democratic veterans to Congress.
From Joe Sestak and Patrick Murphy in the House to Jim Webb in the Senate, Keeping America's Promise efforts raised nearly $2 million dollars for veterans in just the last cycle alone. He also supported Iraq War veteran Jon Soltz in his efforts to build the successful activist group VoteVets.org.
This fight is personal for John Kerry. He came home from a war and realized that getting involved was a necessary component of service to his country. And now, years later, he does all he can to support other veterans in their efforts to follow the same path.
Keeping America's Promise is now reorganized as Campaign for Our Country, but the legacy and goals remain the same. When it comes to veterans, the 2008 cycle will see the same activism and focus from CFOC as the 2006 cycle saw from KAP. We've already raised funds for some great veterans (such as the reelection campaigns of Murphy and Sestak, as well as the election campaign of an exciting newcomer, Jon Powers in New York), and these efforts will continue through the year.
Check back often as we try to involve more veterans of the campaigns in our nation's military in our Campaign for Our Country.
