Working for a Democratic Future in 2008
Campaign For Our Country aims to have a major impact on the 2008 election. From direct fundraising efforts supporting Democrats across the country to innovative uses of new technology, this organization will offer a full spectrum of programs and efforts to assist Democrats in spreading their message and fighting back on the right-wing smears that will be sure to play a major role in this election.
We’ll be rolling out these programs throughout the year, and our first launch was the early launch of an effort to point out the true nature of the Republicans in Washington …
RoadblockRepublicans.com
www.RoadblockRepublicans.com is a website that uses irreverent style and sharp-tongued political humor to tackle a very serious subject: the entrenched Republican power structure in Congress that is determined to block passage of any legislation that reflects a Democratic agenda. The GOP’s use of procedural ploys and extended stalling tactics has been especially true in the Senate, where they have set new records for filibustering bills and throwing up barriers in the path of progress.
The only way to break through those barriers is to replace enough of the Roadblock Republicans with progressive Democrats in 2008 to deny them the 60 votes in the Senate they rely on to enforce their filibuster strategy. The purpose of RoadblockRepublicans.com is to spread that message to today’s younger, net-savvy voters through the use of political parody, satire and snark. Its viral videos and animated short cartoons are a hit on YouTube, and its acidic editorial voice is eminently quotable on other blogs and websites.
Behind the irreverency there is also a serious side: the Roadblock Republicans website also identifies which of the GOP incumbents are most vulnerable to being unseated by Democratic Party challengers in 2008. With its non-satiric content section and online tools such as a dedicated ActBlue page, the site provides extra outreach, information, and fundraising support on behalf of the Democratic candidates in those races.
The satire and the snark are an effective way to catch the eyes and ears of a generation of voters who get their news from The Daily Show and their cynicism from Steven Colbert. But the core message of RoadblockRepublicans.com is one that every Democrat can agree with: in order to get rid of the roadblocks, we have to replace the people who are holding them out there in the highway first.
